CHAPTER 77: SHADOWS OF BETRAYAL
SHADOWS OF BETRAYAL
Your heart races as the realization hits: To survive, you must make a choice, one that will haunt you. The survivor, unaware of your internal struggle, peers into the darkness, oblivious to the looming danger. With a deep breath, you make your move.
"Go, I'll cover you!" you shout, forcing false urgency into your voice. Confusion flickers across the survivor's face, but they nod, believing in your feigned bravery. As they dart forward into the inky blackness, you pivot sharply, heading in the opposite direction. Your heart pounds in your ears as guilt claws at your conscience, but the primal urge to survive overrides it.
The sound of their footsteps fades, swallowed by the tunnel's oppressive silence, replaced by the relentless approach of the undead. You slip through the narrow passageway, each step echoing your betrayal. The air is thick, suffocating, and the scent of decay clings to everything, but you push on, knowing there's no turning back.
Suddenly, the tunnel widens into a cavernous chamber, the ceiling lost in shadows. You pause, catching your breath. The sound of the undead grows distant, temporarily stymied by the passage. Relief is short-lived, however, as the clattering of metal draws your attention. You turn, eyes widening as you spot a rusted gate, its hinges barely holding against the weight of encroaching zombies.
The gate groans, its resistance faltering. Time is running out, and the undead are about to break through. Beyond the gate, a pair of glowing eyes pierces the darkness, another threat lurking in the shadows of the chamber.
