CHAPTER 75: COLLAPSE AND CONSEQUENCES
COLLAPSE AND CONSEQUENCES
The ground trembles violently as you act on instinct, throwing yourself over the survivor to shield them from the raining debris. Your arms wrap tightly around their trembling form as you force your way forward, each step a battle against the chaos descending from above. Stone and dust cascade around you, and the deafening roar of collapsing earth is punctuated by the cries of trapped air.
With a determined shout, you propel the both of you down the unstable passageway, the flashlight casting frantic beams through the swirling dust. Your body aches with every movement, but the urgency in your chest drives you inexorably onward.
Suddenly, the tunnel pitches and you stumble, dragging the survivor with you into a protective alcove. The ceiling above finally succumbs, crashing down where you stood just seconds before, the impact shaking the very bones of the earth. The noise is a thunderous crescendo, but you focus on the figure in your arms, their wide eyes reflecting the chaos with terrified clarity.
"We're not safe here," you rasp, choking on grit. The tunnel groans ominously, the sound vibrating through your bones. The exit is somewhere ahead, shrouded in darkness and uncertainty. You can feel the air growing thin, the compacted space constricting with every breath.
As you prepare to move again, a chilling moan reverberates through the debris-strewn tunnelβa harbinger of the undead drawn to the commotion. The faint shuffle of footsteps grows louder, adding a new layer of peril to your predicament. You know you must act quickly.
