CHAPTER 166: ESCAPE THE RIVER'S GRASP
ESCAPE THE RIVER'S GRASP
With adrenaline surging through your veins, you glance up at the sheer rocky walls of the canyon. The narrow ledges seem your only hope of escape from the river's relentless pull. Turning to the survivor beside you, you shout over the roar of the water, "We have to climb!"
Together, you scramble for footholds, fingers digging into crevices as you begin the ascent. The survivor follows your lead, their movements shaky but determined. Every muscle in your body screams in protest, but you force yourself to focus, inch by inch, upward toward salvation.
The river below churns angrily, and the sound of the approaching waterfall urges haste. The rock face is unforgiving, slick with spray and worn smooth by years of erosion. Your hand slips, and your heart jolts, but you quickly recover, finding a new grip.
Suddenly, a loud crack echoes through the canyon as a rock gives way beneath the survivor's foot. They cry out, dangling precariously as they scramble to regain their balance. You reach down, grasping their arm, pulling them back to safety with a grunt.
The two of you press on, nearing the top. The climb feels endless, and the roar of the waterfall is deafening now, but hope kindles anew as you see the edge within reach. Just a few more feet, and you'll be free from the river's deadly grasp.
Then, without warning, a shadow looms above. A bandit, perched on the canyon rim, grins maliciously, leveling a rifle directly at you.
